Bodega-Fest 2017

Nov. 11. 2017 - at Aviation Heritage Museum

We hope you will join us on Saturday, November 11th for our 7th annual Bodega-Fest 2017, “The Evening Edition”.

This year we are back at the Alaska Aviation Museum – so the event is entirely indoors.

We have just under 30 tasting tables full of local and import craft beer and cider, plus one saké table and a table of Bear Creek Wines from Homer Alaska.

Alaskan musicians will be sharing original music with us throughout Bodega-Fest, and there are delicious food trucks outside among the planes with food for purchase.

The event begins at 5:00 PM and ends at 9:00 PM.

In addition to being our chance to taste with you and talk outside of the shop – this is a fundraiser for the Alaska Aviation Museum.

Frog’s Leap Wine Dinner

Southside Bistro is hosting a five course dinner paired with wonderful wines from Frog’s Leap Vineyards.

Frog’s Leap is an all-biodynamic winery in Napa Valley, CA.  The wines are exquisite.  The dinner will kick off with Frog’s Leap Rosé that is being shipped up specifically for the dinner!

Southside Bistro is one of our favorite restaurants to team up with for dinners.  Head chef Travis blends the Bistro’s Scandinavian heritage with top culinary trends.  Manager and resident sommelier Amanda has designed a wine list that continues to win the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence year after year. The Bistro is committed to sourcing ingredients locally and organically as often as possible.

Our annual Saké Expo is like nothing you’ve seen in Alaska.

This is where La Bodega holds nothing back, presenting over 80 sakés in a tranquil, calm, professional tasting.  The people behind every table are excited to share their knowledge of saké while they pour your samples.

Whether you are new to saké or one of our local connoisseurs, this event will meet you there and you’ll leave more informed than when you arrived.

The Japan Alaska Association will have a table at the Expo to talk with you about the great work they do for our community.

Catering for the Saké Expo will be provided by Kinley’s Restaurant.  Desserts by Modern Dwellers Chocolate Lounge and Wild Scoops, who is bringing back their pear saké sorbet!

All of the saké is available for ordering that evening, some of which is rare and limited in quantity.

Two in-depth saké tasting classes taught by Portland Saké Expert Marcus Pakiser. In Saké 101 you will learn all the basics of saké styles and production. Beer Week Beer Dinner

We love collaborating with Kinley’s on these dinners. Chris and Pamela, along with Heather from Specialty Imports picked out the beers. Brett designed the menu and Marty from Kinley’s is the mastermind of the beautiful execution for which Kinley’s dinners are well-known.

The theme is Classic versus Twisted pairings. For each course you’ll receive two beers, one you’ve likely had or seen and one less common, or a twist on the style. We’ll be explaining the motivation for each pairing as we go along so you can learn the method to our madness and ask any questions that occur along the way.

Hard to believe we’ve been hosting this cider event since 2012! Time flies when you’re having fun, for sure.

We love hosting Cider Soirée at Reilly’s because Ireland has a bit of cider history itself. Plus it’s a very comfortable old school Anchorage bar with super nice bartenders and the lovely owner Jeannie Reilly.

We’ll be offering three different cider flights for purchase from 6 PM until at least 9 PM.

Special guests from JK Scrumpy and D’s Wicked Cider will be making the rounds to meet you and talk about all things cider. And of course, our La Bodega crew will be on hand to make sure the night flows smoothly (and hand you a coupon!).

Jan. 16. 2017 - at West Berlin Restaurant

One of Anchorage’s hidden gems, West Berlin in Mountain View rocks a killer German beer selection year-round to complement their traditional German fare.

West Berlin was the obvious choice for La Bodega to host a release event for several new-to-market German beer offerings. Tasting flights will be available for purchase and we hope you’ll consider staying for dinner and making a night of it!

No need to be there at a specific time – flights will be available for the duration of the dinner service, from 5-9 PM.

Dec. 13. 2016 - at JACK SPRAT IN GIRDWOOD

The British are here, in fact!

As part of our Winter in the Woods Tasting Series, we are featuring all sparkling in the upcoming flight this Tuesday, December 13th.

The first two wines will indeed be from merry old England, Hush Heath Brut and Rosé.  And the third in the flight is the ever-lovely Domaine du Prieure Cremant de Borgogne, a not-champagne-but-incredibly-delicious-and-a-killer-value-bubbly.  

Chef Andrew Brown is designing a three-course tasting menu to pair with our flight.

If you can make it promptly at 5PM, Pamela from La Bodega will be giving a “formal” talk on the wines.  That is, we’ll taste together and go into what they’re all about.

Or, come to Jack Sprat at your leisure that evening to enjoy the night on your timeline.  We recommend ordering the flight and the tasting menu to experience the whole magic.




Will and Pamela traveled to Portland last month for a 3 day advanced course in sake, taught by our mentor and good friend Markus Pakiser.  We were in good company with students from across the U.S. and many attendees from Sake One in Oregon.

Next Tuesday at our mini-Bo we’ll be doing a presentation and tasting to share our newly acquired knowledge.  It begins promptly at 5:15PM and will wrap up at 6:30 on the dot.

Winter in the Wood is in full swing!

Each Winter the Wood features a different theme or winery.

This coming Tuesday, November 15th from 5:00 – 5:30 join Pamela from La Bodega and Chancy Croft for a informative talk and tasting of the Croft wines.  Croft Vineyards is not only organic and certified salmon-safe, they are owned and operated by Alaskans!

Can’t make it at 5:00?  Come to Jack Sprat anytime Tuesday night.  The Croft wines will be available for purchase along with a 3-course tasting menu by chef Andrew Brown.

Chef Brett has designed a fantastic 5 course menu. Chris, Andrew and Pamela of La Bodega worked together on the sudsy selections for the evening.

We’ll send out the full menu in the morning so you can peruse the details, but we assure you, it’s terrific.

This is one of the most adventurous beer dinner menus we’ve ever seen!

It’s a five course dinner starting with shrimp benedict and ending with mochacheesecake.  In-between Chef Brett has included some German classics, a little Thai influence and some good ol’ beef tips.

The six Sierra Nevada beers paired with the dinner really showcase the adventurous side of this quintessential American brewery.
